About CELLpics
We hope you enjoy viewing this collection of fascinating images. The primary aim of this site is to provide students and schools with images and movies which have been created using research level equipment and techniques and also to illustrate specific points using animated clips and interactivity. This site makes extensive use of Adobe Flash and a plug-in is required to view the content of this site.

CELLpics is not a library (other excellent sites fulfil this role) but a website where selected images are interpreted using the CIMR GridPoint device together with static and pop-up notes. Weblinks are included  to more detailed information available on The British Society for Cell Biology softCELL and other websites. Many of the images have been generously supplied by specialists in cell biology who wish to share with you their excitement of seeing and understanding the inside of a cell.

About Us
This site has been devised and produced by Matthew Gratian of the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) and David Archer of the British Society for Cell Biology (BSCB) and is the result of a collaboration between the CIMR (Director - Prof. Paul Luzio), The BSCB (President - Prof. Clare Isacke) and in association with Prof. Michael Reiss (Institute of Education), Univ. of London, Bute Medical School(Prof. Richard Iggo), Univ. of St Andrews, Univ. of Dundee (Prof. Birgit Lane, Deputy Head, Molecular Medicine) and Wellcome Images.

Wellcome Images is the world's leading source of images on the history of medicine, modern biomedical science and clinical medicine. Its new web site http://images.wellcome.ac.uk provides access to all these images in screen-size resolution free of charge for viewing and downloading for non-commercial purposes.

Please contact us if you would like to leave feedback or if you wish to contribute material to the site. We currently wish to cover the following topics: mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, nuclear envelope, nuclear pore, peroxisome, lysosome, microtubules, molecular motors, Golgi and mitosis.
